AfriTongue was born from a fear — that the rich tapestry of African languages could disappear within our lifetime — and a belief that technology could change that.

Africa is home to over 2,000 languages — the richest linguistic diversity on earth. Yet today, children grow up in cities speaking English, French or Swahili, while their grandmother's tongue slowly fades. In one generation, families lose the ability to communicate in the very language that shaped their identity, their proverbs, their stories.
The African diaspora feels this most acutely. A child born in Houston or London to Kenyan parents grows up disconnected from a language they may never fully claim. By the time they want to learn, the elders who could teach them may be gone.
We asked ourselves: what would it look like if learning your mother tongue was as engaging as a mobile game? What if pronunciation was as natural as holding a button and speaking? What if the entire oral tradition of a people could be encoded into a structured learning path — available any time on a smartphone?
AfriTongue is the answer. We work directly with native speakers, cultural elders and linguistic experts to build authentic content — not translations of English phrases, but real expressions rooted in how people actually speak.
Every language on AfriTongue is built from the ground up: native audio recordings, cultural context, real example sentences from daily life. We do not just teach words — we teach the rhythm, tone and soul of a language.
